Two women were injured in an car accident in Anaheim after their cars crashed at a street intersection the morning of March 11, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the T-bone crash involving a Toyota Camry and a Ford Mustang, occurred at the intersection of Wilken Way and Harbor Boulevard. Anaheim firefighters freed the driver of the Camry, which was broadsided. She was then transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries, as was the driver of the Mustang. An investigation is ongoing.
I hope neither of these drivers sustained any catastrophic injuries in this car accident. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries as a result of car accidents in Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, car accidents claimed 152 lives and injured 13,414 during the same year.
T-Bone Crashes
Based on this news report, it is not clear which driver was at fault. It appears that one of these drivers failed to yield right-of-way at the intersection. The article also states that this was a broadside or "T-bone crash." Such crashes involve collisions that occur at right angles. Most of the deadly side-angle crashes are broadside crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that close to 62.5 percent of all fatal side-angle crashes each year are broadside crashes. Such accidents can cause devastating injuries or even, fatalities because the sides of vehicles offer far less protection from the impact of the collision than the front or back of the vehicle.
Liability Issues
In this case if the driver of the Camry is at fault then she could be held liable for the other driver's injuries. If the driver of the Mustang is found to have been at fault here, then, she could be held responsible. Victims in such cases would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. If this accident was caused by a dangerous condition on the roadway, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Any claim against a governmental agency in California must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
