A husband and his wife -- Dukhee Choy, 73, and Bok Soon Choy, 70 – were killed in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of October 18, 2009 when their car went off the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar, California, and crashed. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the fatal car accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of Phillips Ranch Road. Dukhee Choy, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry, for unknown reasons, went off the road and crashed into a concrete divider. Bok Soon Choy died at the scene and her husband was taken to a local hospital where he later died, California Highway Patrol officials said.
I offer my deepest sympathies to the family of Dukhee and Bok Soon Choy for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this couple. Please keep them in your prayers.
Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), three fatalities and 407 Diamond Bar car accidents were reported. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Based on this newspaper report, the exact cause of this tragic car accident is not apparent. There are more questions than answers here. What caused Dukhee Choy to lose control of the Camry? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction, which caused him to lose control and crash? Did he suffer a medical condition? Was he fatigued? Was there a dangerous condition on the freeway that caused or contributed to the crash? Was his car run off the freeway by another vehicle? The answers to these questions will help determine whether any negligence or wrongdoing was involved here on someone else's part.
Enlisting the Help of An Experienced Personal Injury Lawyer
In such cases, the family of the injured or deceased victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of a reputed Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will make sure their rights and interests are protected and that the negligent parties are held responsible. If the accident was caused, for example, as a result of a defective auto product, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable. If the accident was caused by another driver's negligence, then that driver could be held responsible. If a dangerous roadway condition caused the accident, then the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. In California, any claim against a governmental entity must be filed within six months of the accident or injury.
