Quinn Daniel Matheson, 35, was killed in a Riverside motorcycle accident the morning of September 21, 2009 on the 10 Freeway in Banning, California. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, Matheson was riding a motorcycle on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Highland Springs Avenue when he approached slowing traffic. He then lost control of his bike and hit the guardrail, California Highway Patrol officials said.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Quinn Daniel Matheson for their tragic, heartbreaking and untimely loss. Please keep them in your prayers.

Riverside Motorcycle Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but two injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Banning, California. In Riverside County as a whole, 41 fatalities and 562 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of motorcycle accidents.

Based on the information available in this news report, it is not clear how or why Matheson lost control of his motorcycle. We do not know if he was traveling at a high rate of speed given the traffic conditions. It is possible the vehicle in front of Matheson suddenly slowed down. It is also possible there was a mechanical problem or vehicle defect that caused Matheson to crash. If I were a family member of the victim here, I'd want to know if Matheson's fatal injuries were due to someone else's negligence or recklessness.

Motorcycle Accident Liability Issues

There are many factors that could play a part in car accidents or motorcycle accidents. It is very important that every aspect of the crash be investigated in order to determine the facts. If the accident was the result of a defective auto part, the manufacturer could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused. If another driver was at fault, he or she could be held responsible. If a dangerous condition on the freeway caused the accident, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Please remember that any claim against a California governmental agency must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
