Salvador Gonzalez-Larracilla, 33, of Downey was killed in a motorcycle accident in California on the Highway 101 near Ventura, after he veered off the roadway and struck two poles, the Ventura County Star reports. The accident occurred the evening of October 23, 2009 as Gonzalez-Larracilla was riding his motorcycle southbound on the 101 near the Faria Beach area and came upon slower moving traffic, California Highway Patrol officials said. He then swerved right to avoid it, ran off the road and struck the poles along the highway's right shoulder. He was ejected from the motorcycle. Gonzalez-Larracilla was taken to an area hospital where he died a few hours after the crash.
I offer my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Salvador Gonzalez-Larracilla for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your prayers.
Ventura Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were four deaths and 100 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in the unincorporated areas of Ventura County. During that same period, in Ventura County as a whole, five deaths and 210 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in Ventura County.
Based on this news report, it appears that Gonzalez-Larracilla suddenly lost control of his motorcycle. In any motorcycle accident that involves serious personal injuries or death, there are several questions that need to be answered in order to determine liability. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction that caused the motorcyclist to lose control? Did a dangerous condition on the roadway cause the motorcycle crash? What was the speed limit on that roadway? Was the slow moving truck impeding traffic or negligent in any other way?
Motorcyclists Face Danger on the Roadways
Very often drivers of passenger vehicles or other larger vehicles do not notice motorcyclists, especially on the freeway. We need to remember that we share all roadways with motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians. A number of California car accidents occur because many motorists forget that they share the road with these smaller vehicles and pedestrians.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle accident, please consult with an experienced California personal injury claims attorney, who will help analyze all aspects of an accident, determine whether there was negligence, identify the negligent parties and hold them accountable for their actions.
