A motorcyclist was hospitalized with injuries after an
Orange County car accident the morning of October 26, 2009. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred in Huntington Beach when a Buick sedan driven by a 17-year-old struck a motorcycle and then drove through a glass wall of a business. The teen driver apparently missed a traffic signal. The car then went into the wall and an empty room. The motorcycle rider was taken to a local hospital for treatment..
I'm relieved that this car accident did not result in any catastrophic injuries. Based on the news report, it could have been a lot worse. I wish the injured motorcyclist the very best for a speedy and full recovery. Please keep this injured victim in your prayers.
Motorcycle Accidents in Orange County
According to the California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 55 injuries involving motorcycle accidents were reported in Huntington Beach, California. In Orange County as a whole, 24 deaths and 752 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle crashes in 2007. Also, countywide, 178 people died and 14,185 were injured due to car accident during the same period.
Based on this newspaper report, it is not clear how or why the teenager lost control of the Buick. Huntington Beach police officials say the young driver missed the traffic signal. We do not know if the teenager ran a red light. There are several questions here? Why did the teenager miss the signal? Was he or she distracted at the time? Did this accident involve the use of a handheld cell phone or texting? Was anyone else in the car with the teen at the time? In such cases, the at-fault party can be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries.
Car Accidents Involving Teen Drivers
A 2008 study released by the Auto Club found that crashes involving teen drivers ages 15 to 17 costs $2.8 billion annually in California and more than $34 billion annually nationwide. These numbers were reportedly calculated based on 66,785 crashes that occurred in 2006. That number included 177 fatalities and 27,869 personal injuries, according to the report.
In car accidents where negligence is suspected, injured victims would be well-advised to get in touch with an experienced personal injury attorney in Orange County who will analyze all the aspects of the crash, determine whether there was any negligence, identify the negligent parties and hold them accountable for their actions.
