A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries the morning of June 30, 2009 after a motorcycle accident on the westbound 91 Freeway near Euclid Street in Anaheim. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the motorcyclist hurt his foot after his motorcycle collided with a GMC Sierra pickup truck on the freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said.
I'm relieved that the motorcyclist did not suffer catastrophic or fatal injuries in this freeway crash. I hope that he has a quick and complete recovery.
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, there were three fatalities and 118 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Anaheim. In Orange County, 24 deaths and 752 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of motorcycle accidents. By comparison there were 3,472 motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles County and 714 in Riverside County in 2007. According to CHP officials, Southern California has a high incidence of motorcycle crashes because more people like to ride two-wheelers here. And that of course is because of the year-round good weather.
In this case, not much information is available from the news report about who was at fault. It is likely that the pickup truck driver did not see the motorcyclist when he or she was making a lane change on the freeway, which may have caused the foot injury. It's fortunate that the motorcyclist was not thrown off the bike. That could have resulted in more serious personal injury. Of course, it is also possible that this was the motorcyclist's fault.
The injured motorcyclist in this case would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County motorcycle accident attorney who will investigate all the facts of this incident and make sure the negligent parties are identified and held accountable. In such cases, injured victims who are hurt because of someone else's error or negligence may be able to receive compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, long-term care and other related damages. A knowledgeable personal injury lawyer will be able to explain your legal rights and options in all car accident cases.
