BMW is issuing a defective auto product recall for all its 2009 BMW X5 and X6 vehicles because the rear brake discs may not have been manufactured according to correct specifications. According to a news blog, this could lead to reduced braking performance in the rear wheels, significantly increasing stopping distance and increasing the potential for a car accident. The BMW recall has been issued through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. However, BMW has not provided the federal safety agency with its remedy or notification schedule for repair.

Product Recalls Save Lives

It's always a good thing when a car company issues a product defect recall. I'm glad BMW decided to recall these defective cars to fix the potential dangerous issue with the brakes. Brake defects can be extremely dangerous because we, as drivers, depend on our car's brakes to be able to stop our vehicles safely and in time. If the brake malfunctions or fails, then the chances for a car accident increase exponentially. The sudden lack of or reduction of braking function could lead to a catastrophic car crash. Hundreds if not, thousands are killed or injured in the United States each year because of defective brakes, which include problems such as premature lock-up, ABS failures, brake-line defects or brake fluid leaks.

Many in the United States are also serious injured because of defective parking brakes. Bisnar | Chase is leading a $350-million auto product defect class action lawsuit against General Motors on behalf of a Texas law firm. The lawsuit alleges that GM installed defective emergency brakes in several models of GM trucks and SUVs.
