A 29-year-old man was killed in a San Diego motorcycle accident after he lost control and crashed his 2004 BMW in Mission Beach. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the man was riding the motorcycle west on Mission Bay Drive early morning on May 13, 2010 when he struck a parked vehicle. The motorbike then, went out of control and struck several other parked cars on the other side of the road. According to a coroner's report, the man was ejected from his bike and died before he could be taken to a local hospital. Officials say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this deceased motorcyclist. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this man. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
San Diego Motorcycle Accidents
There were 16 deaths and 355 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in San Diego in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol's traffic accident statistics. In San Diego County as a whole, 51 people died and 1,081 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.
Possible Accident Causes
In this particular case, it is not clear what caused the motorcyclist to lose control. There are many questions here. Was speed or alcohol a factor? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the motorcycle that caused the rider to lose control? Was there a dangerous or defective condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this crash? Was there another vehicle involved? For example, did the motorcycle get run off the roadway or cut off by another driver? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine exactly what occurred here.
Liability Issues
If an accident is caused by an auto product defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable. If another driver was involved, he or she could be held liable. Families of deceased accident victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will advise them about their legal rights and options. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims could file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation to cover medical or funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.
What are some of the important precautions and protective measures motorcyclists can and should take on the road?
