A man was seriously injured in a San Bernardino car accident after he crashed a truck into a local real estate business the morning of August 26, 2009, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. The driver of a Chevrolet truck apparently lost control of the vehicle when he tried to make a left turn from 40th Street onto Electric. A person who saw the car crash says she heard the tires screeching right before the truck crashed. Half of the truck went into the building. The driver was trapped in the truck with a building pillar that had fallen onto his lap. The doors of the truck had also buckled in on him. San Bernardino firefighters had to use Jaws of Life and other heavy equipment to extricate the severely injured driver.
My heart goes out to this man who apparently suffered serious personal injuries in this California car accident. I'm glad that his injuries were not fatal and that no one in the office building was injured. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep him in your prayers.
San Bernardino Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 32 fatalities and 1,177 injuries were reported in the city of San Bernardino as a result of car accidents. In San Bernardino County as a whole, there were 308 fatalities and 9,920 injuries in 2007 involving car accidents.
It's not clear based on this newspaper report as to why the man lost control of the Chevrolet truck while making a left turn on a city street. The article does not state that the man was speeding, under the influence or driving recklessly at the time of the crash. There are always a number of possible explanations in such types of car accidents. If I were a family member of the victim, I'd want to be absolutely certain there wasn't any negligence involved here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the truck that caused the driver to lose control and crash into the building? Was there another motorist that made the truck driver lose control and crash? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway that caused him to lose control of the truck? The answers to these questions will help determine whether there was any negligence on the part of someone other than the driver for this accident and resulting injuries.
California Car Accident Lawyer
Injured victims in such cases would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California personal injury lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the car accident, identify the negligent parties and hold them responsible. If a vehicle defect is suspected, the vehicle (in this case, the Chevy pickup truck) must be carefully preserved, unaltered, so it can be examined by an expert for auto product defects, mechanical problems and other evidence.
