One person was hospitalized with injuries after an Orange County car accident involving two Toyota vehicles, the morning of February 8, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a Toyota 4Runner collided with a Toyota Celica at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Brea Boulevard. The vehicles apparently struck each other right at the middle of the intersection. An occupant of the 4Runner was hospitalized with injuries. No other injuries were reported.
I truly hope the occupant of the 4Runner was not seriously injured. I wish this victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. It's indeed fortunate that more people were not injured.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 260 injuries occurred involving car accidents in Brea. In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of traffic accidents in 2007.
Car Accident Causes
This news report does not offer much information in terms of how or why this injury crash occurred. However, we know that it happened at a busy intersection. There are several questions here. Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way to the other? Did one of the drivers run a red light? Was one of the drivers distracted, speeding or otherwise negligent? Considering that both the cars were Toyotas, did a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction cause or contribute to this accident. Toyota recently recalled more than 8 million vehicles for defective gas pedals and floor mats that could cause sudden or unintended acceleration.
Liability Issues
If this accident was caused by one of the driver's recklessness or other negligence, he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to the other parties. If this accident was the result of a vehicle defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable for the accident and injuries. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to guide victims through the complex legal processes involved in filing such claims to secure compensation, and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
