Three people were killed in an Orange County car accident after one car collided with another and burst into flames on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car crash occurred the night of March 16, 2010 on the eastbound 91 Freeway near the Coal Canyon under-crossing. California Highway Patrol officials said that a 1988 Mazda that was traveling eastbound on the freeway suddenly veered from the number three lane and entered the 91 Express Lanes, and directly into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The cars collided and the Mazda immediately caught fire resulting in the death all three occupants. The driver of the Chevrolet, 29-year-old Brandon H. Charlie and passenger, 23-year-old Arioll Joe suffered only minor injuries. The victims in the Mazda have not yet been identified.
I offer my deepest condolences to the families of all three occupants of the Mazda who were killed in this horrific crash. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved these deceased victims. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, 152 deaths and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Accident Causes and Liability Causes
Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused this fiery car collision. The article does not mention the driver of the Mazda was under the influence, distracted or fatigued at the time. Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the Mazda that caused the driver to lose control? Was there another vehicle involved? Did another driver's action force the Mazda out of its lane? Did the driver lose control because he or she was trying to avoid debris or dodge an unsafe condition that existed on the freeway?
If I were a member of the victims' family, I would preserve the Mazda in its current crashed condition, in tact, so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for auto product defects, mechanical malfunctions and other evidence. An experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer will be able to analyze all aspects of this accident and make sure that the families' legal rights and best interests are protected. Where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation to cover funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.
