A 19-year-old was killed in a San Francisco car accident this week after his car smashed into a light pole.

CBS5 reported that the tragic car accident took place on the Pittsburg-Antioch Highway at about 1:45 Wednesday morning. According to the report, the victim, identified as Concord resident Alexander Lal, was driving a 1991 Honda Accord near the intersection of Loveridge Road when he apparently lost control of his car.

Lal was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators believe that Lal was the only person in the car. A California Highway Patrol Helicopter helped to search the area with an infrared camera to make sure that nobody else might have been ejected from the car.
Although the details of the car accident are still vague, authorities are investigating whether or not speed might have played a factor in the car crash.

Firstly, I would like to send my condolences to the friends and family of Alexander Lal. It's always so sad when a young person's future is so violently and abruptly cut short. Unfortunately, many victims of car accidents are young men just like Alexander.
According to the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), three people were killed and 180 others were injured in car accidents in Pittsburg, Contra Costa in 2007. The SWITRS also shows that 453 male drivers who were killed throughout California in car accidents in 2007 were between the ages of 15 and 24.

In any accident that results in deaths or injuries, it is important to find out what exactly happened. Why did Alexander suddenly lose control of his car? Were there defects in his car that led to the car accident? Did the car's safety features work as they should have to protect him when he crashed into the light pole? Was there enough lighting in the area at the hour the car accident occurred? Or was there something else that forced Alexander to lose control of his car and forced him off the road in those pre-dawn hours?
