A speeding driver is said to have caused a Ventura car accident, which left Bonitta Wade with serious injuries and almost hurt her infant son. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Ali Sehhat, 33, was driving west on Royal Avenue in Simi Valley the morning of October 20, 2009 when he lost control of his car, veered into an opposing lane of traffic, up a sidewalk ramp and a decorative rock. Sehhat's vehicle then became airborne and hit a home in the 3300 block of Royal Avenue. The car entered the home and came to rest a few feet away from an infant lying on the floor. The child escaped without injuries, but the mother was hit by flying debris and suffered a broken leg.

Wade was apparently hit by a piece of drywall and needed surgery. The 9-week-old baby survived with a bump on his head. Bonitta Wade had to crawl on the floor because of her injuries to get to her baby and keep him safe, her husband John Wade said. Sehhat suffered minor injuries. He is expected to be cited with an infraction for unsafe operation of a motor vehicle resulting in injury.

Car Accident could Have Been Tragic

My heart goes out to the Wade family for their traumatic experience. What a scare! This baby's life was no doubt in grave danger and I'm thankful that the little one is safe and uninjured. I wish Bonitta Wade the very best for a quick and complete recovery from her injuries. Please keep this family in your prayers.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), nine deaths and 462 injuries were reported as a result of Simi Valley car accidents. In Ventura County as a whole, 71 deaths and 3,993 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.

Car Accident Liability Issues

If this news report is accurate, it appears that Sehhat is at fault for this accident, which could have been a lot worse - even deadly. He seems to have driven in a reckless manner. Officials say he was doing 60 in a 45 mph zone. He has been charged with an infraction, but in my opinion, he should be held liable for the injuries and damages caused in this incident.

The Wade family would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced Ventura personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of this case and hold the negligent parties accountable for their actions. In such cases, victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, property damage and other related costs.
