A woman was injured in a San Francisco car accident, when she was struck by a car soon after getting off an N-Judah streetcar, CBS news reports. The woman had just stepped out of the train at the intersection of Judah Street and 12th Avenue when the car hit her the afternoon of September 27, 2009 in the Inner Sunset neighborhood. The woman was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
I'm glad that this woman did not suffer any catastrophic injuries due to this San Francisco car accident. I wish this victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep her in your prayers.
San Francisco Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 51 deaths and 3632 injuries were reported as a result of San Francisco car accidents. During the same period, 29 deaths and 775 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in the city of San Francisco.
Based on this news report, it is not clear exactly what happened here. There are more questions than answers at this point. Why did the driver of the car not see the woman getting off the light rail vehicle? Was the driver of the car distracted, impaired or otherwise negligent at the time of the accident? Was the woman dropped off at the right place or was she allowed to get off the vehicle on to a dangerous roadway? Was there an existing dangerous roadway condition, which may have caused or contributed to this pedestrian accident?
Car Accident Liability Issues
The answers to these questions will determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the car driver or the operator of the light rail vehicle that may have contributed to this accident. It is also time that Muni officials reevaluate their operations and safety procedures in light of several car, train and pedestrian accidents that their vehicles have been involved with just over the last two months. They are now facing several claims and lawsuits from victims who were injured in these accidents.
Victims of car accidents who believe they were injured as a result of someone else's negligence would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer, who will guide them through the process of filing a personal injury claim and help them secure fair compensation to cover significant expenses such as medical costs, lost wages and other related damages. If you would like to make an injury claim against a California governmental agency, please remember that it must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
