Two people were severely injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving a Metro bus, a black sedan, and a red hatchback. According to a City News Service report, the bus accident occurred on Sherman Way in Van Nuys, the morning of November 25, 2011. Officials say the black sedan was wedged under a bus before the red hatchback struck it. The drivers of the hatchback and the sedan suffered critical injuries. The bus driver and four bus passengers were hospitalized with unknown injuries. It is not clear what caused the initial collision or if anyone will be cited for the accident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Los Angeles bus accident. I wish them the very best with a complete and speedy recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 227 people were killed and 25,043 were injured in Los Angeles car accidents. Countywide, there were 554 fatalities and 50,817 injuries reported as a result of car accidents, during the same year.

What Caused This Serious Injury Accident?

This news report does not specify how or why this accident happened. I trust investigators are looking for the answers to a number of questions. What caused the black sedan to get wedged underneath the bus? Did the bus driver change lanes or enter traffic without properly yielding the right of way? Why was the red hatchback unable to avoid the collision? Were any of the drivers distracted, inattentive, under the influence, fatigued, or otherwise negligent? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If the bus driver is determined to have been at fault, then, the driver as well as his or her employer can be held liable for the injuries and damages. If one of the other drivers is determined to have been at fault, he or she could be held liable. In cases involving negligence or wrongdoing, injured victims can pursue compensation for medical bills, hospitalization, the cost of rehabilitation services, lost wages and benefits, and other related damages. Victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

Four people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident between a car and a Metro Orange Line bus. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the bus accident occurred on West Victory Boulevard in Woodland Hills, the morning of October 6, 2011. The bus driver and three of the passengers sustained minor injuries in the crash. No one in the other car was hurt. The circumstances of the collision are currently under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Los Angeles bus accident. I wish them all the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

What Caused This Bus Accident?

No details about how or why this collision occurred have been released. There are many questions that investigators will have to answer here. Did the bus driver make an unsafe lane change? Did either motorist violate California Vehicle Code Section 22350 by speeding? Did this mid-block collision involve a driver violating California Vehicle Code Section 21804 by entering traffic without yielding to other vehicles? Was either driver distracted or fatigued? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred and why.

Liability Issues

According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the injury crash occurred near the intersection of Loma Vista Road and North Brent Street. Fourteen people were injured in this collision between the bus, a car and an SUV. Nine bus passengers and one motorist were transported to area hospitals. Four others left the scene without seeking medical attention. None of the injuries is believed to be life-threatening. An investigation is ongoing.

It is indeed fortunate that this crash did not result in any critical injuries. I wish all the injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Ventura Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were four fatalities and 416 injuries involving car accidents in the city of Ventura. In Ventura County as a whole, 57 people died and 3,421 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Injury Crash?

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused this bus accident. There are several questions that still remain. Did one of the vehicles fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection? Did one of the vehicles run a red light? Was this a rear-end collision that was caused by impaired or distracted driving? Did speed play a part in this crash? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If the bus driver is determined to have been at fault, both the driver and his or her employer (in this case, the transit authority), can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Bus companies – whether public or private – owe their passengers the highest "duty of care," which means that they are legally obligated to safely transport their passengers. If one of the other motorists was at fault, then, he or she could be held liable for the resulting injuries and damages.

In such cases where multiple vehicles and victims are involved, injured victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Ventura personal injury lawyer, who will remain on their side, fight for their rights and make sure that their best interests are protected. Car accident victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, and even physical therapy costs.

Two people were injured in a San Diego car accident involving a Mercedes SUV and a school bus. According to a 10News report, the bus accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 805 at Murray Ridge Road in Serra Mesa, the early morning of May 26, 2011. It is unclear what may have caused the two vehicles to collide. Two occupants of the SUV were hospitalized following the crash. There were no children in the school bus at the time of the accident.

I am relieved to hear that no children were on the bus at the time of this injury accident. I wish the injured victims of this bus accident a complete and speedy recovery.

San Diego Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 81 people were killed and 6,123 were injured in San Diego car accidents. During that same year, there were 246 fatalities and 13,527 injuries reported involving San Diego County car accidents.

What Caused This Bus Accident?

It is unclear at this time what may have led to this injury accident. Was one of the motorists speeding? Did the bus driver or the driver of the SUV make an unsafe lane change? Was either driver distracted or fatigued? California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: "No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property."

Also, California Vehicle Code Section 21658 (a) states that whenever a roadway has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic in one direction the vehicle "shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety."

Liability Issues

Injured victims of San Diego car accidents may pursue financial compensation for the damages they have suffered by filing a personal injury claim. In such cases, compensation may be available for losses including hospital bills, lost wages, physical therapy fees, mental anguish and pain and suffering. An experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer will better advise car accident victims about their legal rights and options. If the driver of the school bus is determined to have been responsible for the the accident, the driver and his or her employer may be held liable. Under California Government Code, any personal injury claim against a governmental entity must be filed within six months of the incident.

Seriously injured in a San Diego County car accident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

Sky Ruddock, 22, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after a car and a tour bus crashed at a street intersection. According to a City News Service report, the fatal car accident occurred the morning of May 19, 2011 at the intersection of Towne and San Bernardino avenues in Pomona. Officials say the tour bus, which did not have any passengers on board, was southbound on Towne Avenue while a Chevrolet was heading west on San Bernardino. Ruddock, a passenger in the Chevrolet, died at the scene. The car's driver, a 31-year-old Pomona woman, sustained serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Sky Ruddock. I also wish the injured driver the very best for a prompt and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six fatalities and 717 injuries involving car accidents in Pomona. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Right-of-Way Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused this car versus bus accident. It appears that one of the drivers may have failed to yield right-of-way to the other. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): "The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway."

In such cases, it is also possible that one of the vehicles ran a red light. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown."

Fault and Liability

Dionisio Galindo Nunez, 61, was killed in a car accident in Monterey County involving a transit bus. According to a news report in The Monterey Herald, the fatal bus accident occurred at the intersection of West Blanco and Davis roads in Salinas early morning on February 5, 2011. Nunez suffered fatal injuries when his blue Nissan Frontier pickup truck collided with a Monterey-Salinas Transit bus at the intersection. Nunez was killed and four occupants of the bus, including the female bus driver, suffered minor to moderate injuries. Police say that one of the drivers ran through a red light, but are in the process of determining which one of the drivers committed the violation.

My deepest condolences go out to the family members and friends of Dionisio Galindo Nunez following this tragic bus accident. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), six people were killed and 419 were injured in Salinas car accidents. During that same year, there were 40 fatalities and 1,470 injuries reported as a result of Monterey County car accidents.

What Caused This Tragic Bus Accident?

Based on this news report, it is possible that one of the drivers either failed to yield right-of-way at the intersection or ran a red light. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: "A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown."

Liability Issues

If it is determined that the bus driver ran the red light, then she and her employer, the transit authority, can be held liable for Nunez's death. If Nunez is determined to have been at fault, then the other injured victims of this accident can file a claim against his estate or liability insurance. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.

An experienced California personal injury lawyer will be able to analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. Under California Government Code Section 911.2, any personal injury or wrongful death claim against a public entity must be filed within 180 days of the incident.

At least one person was hospitalized with injuries after a Los Angeles bus accident on the 5 Freeway the morning of December 31, 2010. According to a CBS News report, the injury car accident occurred on the 5 Freeway at the 110 interchange when a car rear-ended the Greyhound bus, which was carrying 45 passengers. One person was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

My heart goes out to the injured victim of this bus versus car accident. I hope he or she did not sustain catastrophic injuries. Please keep this individual in your thoughts and prayers.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 268 deaths and 25,588 injuries involving Los Angeles car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Rear-End Car Accidents

Based on this news report, it is not entirely clear why this rear-end accident occurred. Rear-end accidents are often caused by drivers following too closely behind another vehicle or by distracted drivers. California Vehicle Code Section 21703 states: "The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway." California Vehicle Code Section 21704 also states that the driver "shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it."

Fault and Liability

In this case, I trust officials are looking into whether intoxication, distracted driving, speeding or any other form of negligence played a part. If the driver of the vehicle is determined to have been at fault, he or she could be held liable for the injuries caused. If the driver of the Greyhound drove unsafely or stopped suddenly causing the accident, the driver and his employer, the bus company, can also be held liable.

In such cases, injured victims can file a claim for compensation against the at-fault party for medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise car accident victims about their legal rights and options.

Seriously injured in a Los Angeles County car accident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

Gerardo Perez, 39, was injured in a pedestrian versus bus accident in Baldwin Park after he was struck by a city bus while walking in a crosswalk. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the accident occurred August 24, 2010 at the intersection Los Angeles Street and Merced Avenue. Perez was in the crosswalk when the bus made a left turn from Merced Avenue to Los Angeles Street. Police have issued a citation against Perez for "failing to exercise enough caution."

Officials say a witness saw Perez run across three lanes of traffic on Los Angeles Street as the bus turned. Perez denies the eyewitness account saying that the crosswalk signal gave him the go-ahead to cross and he was walking – not running – when the bus hit him. Perez says he suffered broken bones as a result of the accident and has been in a wheelchair since the collision.

My heart goes out to Gerardo Perez and his family. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. He will be in my prayers.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 21 injuries reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in Baldwin Park. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 214 people died and 4,985 were injured due to pedestrian accidents during the same year.

Laws Relating to Crosswalks

Based on this news report, it appears that there are conflicting accounts of how the accident occurred. California law requires drivers of all vehicles to yield right-of-way to pedestrians who are walking in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. California Vehicle Code Section 21950 states: "The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection."

The same section also states that this law does not relieve the pedestrian from the duty of using due care for his or her safety. "No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.

Liability Issues

The victim in this case would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will carefully examine all aspects of the case and help hold the negligent parties accountable. If the bus driver was at fault, then he and his employer, the city, could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused. If there was a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused or contributed to this incident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Under California Government Code section 911.2, any personal injury claim against a governmental entity must be filed within 180 days of the incident.

What are some of the most dangerous roadways for pedestrians in your city? What precautions do you take as a pedestrian while walking in a crosswalk or while crossing the street?

The daughter of Greyhound bus driver James Jewett, who was killed in a bus accident that also killed five others and injured many more, is defending her father amid allegations that he may have been speeding moments before the July 22, 2010 collision. According to a news report in The Fresno Bee, Jewett has been named in a personal injury lawsuit filed by six bus passengers who were injured in the crash.

The fatal accident occurred when the bus collided with an overturned SUV on Highway 99. Investigators have determined that the three SUV occupants were alive when the bus hit their vehicle and that the 19-year-old driver of the SUV, Sylvia Lopez Garay, was intoxicated at the time. Garay and two other female passengers in the SUV also died in the collision.

The Issue of Unsafe Speed

Attorneys for the plaintiffs allege that Jewett was rushing and traveling at an unsafe speed moments before the crash because the bus, which was on its way from Los Angeles to Sacramento, was running late. One of the victims who sustained personal injuries in this crash also told the media that Jewett simply did not "look right" to him. Other passengers have come forward to say that the bus was traveling at more than 70 mph in a 65-mph zone moments before the collision. One passenger says he even left his seat to ask Jewett to slow down.

Toxicology reports released by California Highway Patrol officials have revealed that Jewett was not under the influence at the time of the collision. Authorities are still looking into the speed of bus. Greyhound has not said much about the crash other than Jewett was their long time employee and will be missed. It is also not clear whether the bus was equipped with a speed-tracking device. Jewett's daughter has defended her father saying that he would never speed, not even in his personal vehicle.

Protecting Victims' Rights

In any bus accident case, it is important that injured victims or families of deceased victims get an experienced California personal injury lawyer on their side immediately. Investigations of such cases can be complex. As we speak, accident investigators in this case are looking into whether speed, impairment, driver fatigue or vehicle maintenance were issues here. The official investigation could take months to be completed. However, it is in the best interests of the victims and their families to have a knowledgeable attorney working for them and ensuring their legal rights and best interests are protected.

What are your biggest concerns about taking a bus trip? Would you feel safe riding a bus?

Officials have identified six people who died in a horrific Greyhound bus accident on Highway 99 in Fresno, the morning of July 22, 2010, as 57-year-old James Charles Jewett, the bus driver; Epifania Solis, 60, of Madera and Tomas Ponce, 79, of Mexico, both bus passengers; Stephenie Cordoba, 20, of Fresno, Vanessa Gonzalez, 19, of Fresno and Sylvia Lopez Garay, 18, of Dinuba. Cordoba, Gonzalez and Garay were occupants of a Chevy Trailblazer SUV that had initially rolled over before being struck by the bus, which was traveling from Los Angeles to Sacramento.

I offer my deepest condolences to the families and friends of these deceased victims for their tragic and devastating losses. I also sympathize with 34 others who have sustained personal injuries in this bus crash. I pray for their speedy and complete recovery.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials are now investigating what caused the initial accident involving the Chevy SUV and subsequently, what caused the driver to strike the SUV and crash. The bus, after striking the SUV, went off the right shoulder of the roadway and plowed into a tree. The driver, Jewett, has no record of prior driving violations and is a respected long-time employee of Greyhound, officials said.

Investigators are in the process of examining the driver's logs, speed at the time of collision and hours-of-service records to determine whether fatigue or negligence may have played a part in this early morning crash. So far, there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a part. Officials are looking into why the Trailblazer crashed and overturned and who the driver was. They believe the women in the SUV were alive when the bus hit the vehicle. Investigators are also looking into whether the overturned SUV was visible to the bus driver at the time.

Fault and Liability

This is an extremely important investigation because the facts of this case will determine liability and how the victims and their families will be compensated for their injuries damages and loss. I'm sure that Greyhound's lawyers and insurance carriers are working hard at this time to protect the company's interests. The victims of this bus crash and their families need an experienced California personal injury lawyer on their side who will stay on top of this investigation, fight for their rights and protect their best interests.

In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges for the victims of this horrific crash?
