Shengying Chen, 38, was killed in a Riverside car accident that occurred the night of October 30, 2009, after she was struck on the 215 Freeway by another vehicle. According to a news report in the North County Times, Chen had gotten out of her 1996 Toyota Corolla after it struck the center divider. California Highway Patrol officials said traffic had slowed down because of Chen's accident. A 17-year-old driver of a Hyundai Tiburon who came up against the slowing traffic swerved into the center divider to avoid other vehicles. The Tiburon then hit Chen. Two other vehicles also struck Chen. She was taken to a hospital where she died the next morning. Three others were treated for minor to moderate injuries.

This is no doubt an unfortunate accident, which reminds us how dangerous it can be out on our freeways. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Shengying Chen for their tragic loss.
