Bill George Amanatidis, 41, was killed in a San Diego car accident after his Honda SUV went off the roadway and crashed into a rock. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred on the 8 Freeway near Jacumba. Amanatidis was driving his 1999 Honda CRV west the morning of December 5, 2010 when the SUV drifted into the dirt center median. Amanatidis then overcorrected and crashed into a large rock on the right shoulder.

California Highway Patrol officials say the vehicle rolled over and Amanatidis was ejected on to the traffic lanes. They suspect he was not wearing his seatbelt. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved and are trying to determine the cause of the fatal accident.

I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Bill George Amanatidis for their tragic and devastating loss. Apparently, Amanatidis was a medical courier who was returning to San Diego after delivering pharmaceuticals. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 90 fatalities and 2,252 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Also, countywide, 246 people died and 13,527 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same time.

Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this fatal car accident occurred. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the vehicle which may have caused it to go out of control? Was the driver fatigued at the time? Was Amanatidis ejected from the SUV as the result of a defective seatbelt? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here.

In such cases, it would be in the best interests of the family of the deceased accident victim to preserve the vehicle, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined for design flaws, vehicle defects, malfunctions and other evidence. Seat restraint system failure is unfortunately a common occurrence, specifically in rollover accidents. Families would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

Off-duty Orange County Sheriff's deputy Terry Stepp, 44, and his father-in-law, 59-year-old David Kerr, were killed in a Huntington Beach car accident after Stepp lost control of his Dodge Viper and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Stepp was northbound on Goldenwest Street, the evening of March 20, 2010, when the fatal car crash occurred. Huntington Beach police say Stepp may have been traveling at a high rate of speed as he struck a tree on Pecan Avenue.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Stepp and Kerr for their untimely and devastating loss. Stepp was apparently a 20-year veteran of the sheriff's department and is survived by his wife and three children. Tragic! I offer my deepest condolences to these grieving families.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 12 fatalities and 943 injuries involving car accidents in Huntington Beach, California. In Orange County as a whole, 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Car Accident Causes

Based on this news report, officials at this time, believe that speed was a factor in this car accident. However, if I were a member of the victims' family, I would also want to determine whether there was any negligence on someone else’s part. Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical problem in the vehicle, which may have caused or contributed to this tragic crash? Was there another driver involved? For example, was the Viper run off the road because of the actions of another driver? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway that caused Stepp to lose control of the vehicle? The families of these victims deserve answers here.

Liability Issues

In such cases, an experienced Huntington Beach personal injury lawyer will stay abreast of the official investigation and help determine whether there was any negligence or wrongdoing involved. A skilled car accident attorney will also be able to determine if this accident was caused by an auto product defect, or by an unsafe roadway. If that was the case, the auto maker or the city (governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway) could be held liable. California Government Code section 911.2 states that any claim against a governmental agency must be properly filed within six months of the accident or injury.

William Robert Wingate, 47, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after he lost control of his SUV and crashed, the morning of March 5, 2010. According to a news report in The San Bernardino Sun, Wingate was driving a Toyota 4Runner on the southbound 15 Freeway near Duncan Canyon Drive, in Fontana. According to witnesses, the SUV veered off the roadway and crashed into the back of a parked tractor trailer, which was apparently waiting for roadside assistance. The Toyota SUV rolled over and caught fire. Wingate died at the scene. No one else was injured.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of William Robert Wingate for their tragic and devastating loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved this man. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 14 deaths and 627 injuries involving car accidents in Fontana. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 263 fatalities and 8,504 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Car Accident Causes

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how exactly this rollover accident occurred. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the 4Runner that caused it go out of control and crash? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was any other vehicle involved in this accident? I trust investigators are looking at different scenarios in order to determine what happened and why.

Auto Product Liability Issues

Victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact a reputed California personal injury lawyer, who is experienced in successfully handling auto product defect cases against large auto makers including Toyota, Ford and GM. In any auto product defect case, it is critical to preserve the vehicle in its current crashed condition so it can be carefully examined for vehicle defects, mechanical malfunctions and other evidence.

If the accident was caused by a vehicle defect, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable for the victim's wrongful death. Victims' families in such cases could seek compensation to cover medical/funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.
